`Runners To Play Two WAC Games On The Road

BAKERSFIELD, Calif – CSU Bakersfield women's basketball team will head back out on the road for two WAC games against UTRGV and New Mexico State. The Roadrunners are looking to add two more wins on the road taking on first the Vaqueros on Thursday and the Aggies on Saturday afternoon.

"We know this is going to be a tough road trip," said Greg McCall, head coach of CSUB's women's basketball team. "We were looking forward to it, this is something we marked on our calendars, that if we can take care of business in the first three games it will put us in the driver's seat for the conference"

Bakersfield will head to Texas to play against UTRGV with a current record of 10-6, 0-1 WAC. As a team, the Vaqueros are averaging 61.7 points and 38.8 rebounds per game. Currently, UTRGV has a .735% free throw average and are averaging 8.3 steals per game. The team is led by junior Quynne Huggins who tallies 10.6 points per game and has 67 rebounds while teammate freshman Laura van Tilburg holds 8.9 points per game and has 101 rebounds.

Saturday, the `Runners will face off against the defending WAC Tournament Champions, New Mexico State, at their home. Currently, the Aggies have the same record as the `Runners but are leading the WAC in standings. The New Mexico team is averaging 69.3 points, 37.9 rebounds and 13.2 assists per game. On the season, junior Brooke Salas leads the Aggies with 20.1 points, 7.7 rebounds and has 29 blocks while freshman Gia Pack tallies in 15.0 points, 7.7 rebounds and has 30 assists.

The `Runners will look to keep their momentum from last weekend's win against Utah Valley by playing a strong defense. Currently, CSUB holds their opponents defensively to 56.2 points per game and are currently ranked #24 in the nation in scoring defense and #92 with 18.27 turnovers forced.

Coach McCall went on to say, "We did a good job hanging in the Icardo Center last weekend, this is where we wanted to start to continue on the road. These first three games are going to be really crucial for us in conference, so, it's here now and we are expecting to come into a tough atmosphere especially with UTRGV who play very physical with us."

CSUB will play at the UTRGV on Thursday, Jan. 11 for a scheduled tip-off at 7 pm (CT) and then New Mexico State on Saturday, Jan. 13 at 2 pm (MT). Live stats and video will be available for fans who cannot make the game. The links can be found on the women's basketball schedule page.
