CSUB Travels To NAU Tournament In Flagstaff

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – After a tough loss at Fresno State in the middle of the week, CSU Bakersfield's volleyball team hits the road again for its third tournament of the season. The Roadrunners are headed to Flagstaff, Ariz. for the NAU Tournament hosted by Northern Arizona, Sept. 8-9.

"I am excited for the weekend," said Giovana Melo, Director of Volleyball at CSUB. "We have a great opportunity to get better. We play two teams we have already seen and a Pac-12 team. We learned from our mistakes on Tuesday night and now we are looking forward to go battle this weekend."

The `Runners will open the tournament with a doubleheader on Friday, Sept. 8. CSUB will kick off the weekend against Arizona State and close the day in a rematch against Utah State. Bakersfield will finish off the tournament in a battle with host Northern Arizona, a team CSUB defeated 3-1 in South Dakota last weekend.

The Sun Devils (4-2) are led by Oluoma Okaro, who packs a powerful punch with 4.64 kills per set this season. USU's offense is orchestrated by a pair of setters in Kassidy Johnson and Jaysa Funk, who both average more than nine assists per set. NAU looks to Kaylie Jorgenson to contribute 3.45 kills per set in a well-rounded offense.

CSUB's first match on Friday is scheduled for a 10 a.m. start in Flagstaff. The `Runners will play Utah State at 4 p.m. on Friday before closing the tournament on Saturday against NAU at 12 p.m. For links to live stream (NAU game only) and live stats, visit the tournament central page.
