`Runners Fall In Tough Loss At UC Davis

Box Score DAVIS, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield (2-2) went into Sunday afternoon looking for the Labor Day weekend two-game sweep in Northern California.  The `Runners improved to 2-1 on the season Friday night with a 1-0 overtime victory at Sacramento State. On the flip side, UC Davis (2-2) was looking to get back to .500 on the year with a home victory.

The Aggies got off to a flying start as Jake Haupt scored his first goal of the season with a well placed header in the seventh minute to give UC Davis an early 1-0 lead.  Noah Wilson played a great little chip into the box for the assist.

Wilson would get a goal of his own, his first of the year, in the 39th minute for UC Davis and the Aggies would go to the half with a 2-0 lead.  UC Davis outshot the `Runners 9-3 in the first half as well.  The only yellow card of the half went to the Aggies' Kyle Higgins.

In the 85th minute, Jamie Carey-Morrell cut the Aggies' lead in half when he scored his second goal of the season on a penalty kick, after Sebastian Mentel was taken down in the box.  But that is as close as the 'Runners could get.

UC Davis outshot CSUB 15-6 for the game and the Aggies improved to 2-2 on the season.  The 'Runners fall to 2-2 on the year after the split this weekend.  CSUB will be back in action on Friday September 15th against Gonzaga at the UNLV Johann Memorial Classic in Las Vegas.
