CSUB Comes Up Short In The Johann Memorial Classic

Box Score LAS VEGAS, Nev. – CSU Bakersfield's men's soccer team endured a close loss on Sunday morning to end the Johann Memorial Classic. The Roadrunners fell to St. Francis in an overtime match by a score of 2-1.

The Red Flash got off to a hot start taking six shots before junior Mario Mastrangelo tapped in a header by twin brother Nicco Mastrangelo in the 38th minute. `Runners goal keeper Detre Bell saved half of the first six shots by St. Francis.

Bakersfield picks up the momentum in the second half by tying up the game when Freshman Victor Romero recorded his third assist to give sophomore Anthony Negrete a nice pass to put CSUB on the board in the 61st minute. Not letting go of the pace the runners outscored their shots (5) from the first half to try and take the lead.

Detre Bell record high of six saves in the second period kept the `Runners alive to take them to overtime. Unfortunately, the Red Flash scored late in the 97th minute to give CSUB their second loss of the weekend.

Adding to CSUB's 2017 season records, Negrete scores his first season goal and Bell recorded a season high of eight saves.

The `Runners will return to action at Cal Poly to take on the Mustangs on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. Live stats will be available.
