Roadrunners Will Host UNLV and Sac State For A Competitive Weekend Ahead

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield's women's soccer team will host UNLV and Sacramento State for this weekend's festivities at the Main Soccer Field. The Roadrunners will play UNLV on Friday, Sept. 15. Then return to the field on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 17 to play Sacramento State.

"Obviously going on the road last weekend and delivering two big performances was a great progress for our program," said Gary Cureen, CSUB's Head Coach. "Winning 4 out of the last 5, we have worked very, very hard to get that confidence and momentum. Now we have to make sure we are still looking to push forward and give even more to this season. I'm excited to see how we respond to this during the week and when the lights come on Friday night."
 
Last weekend the `Runners posted two wins in the Saint Mary's Tournament against host Saint Mary's and Grambling State. Winning their first, third overtime win in program history on Friday. CSUB went to double-overtime the first day of the tournament when the Gaels scored a late goal (81') to tie up the match 1-1. Red-shirt junior Aminah Settles cleared the victory with a perfect tap in goal from red-shirt sophomore Aryana Harvey.
 
Coach Cureen mentions even with their last victories the `Runners are up against some good competition this weekend, "The challenge this week is different. We are up against two excellent opponents and will need to be at our best to get the points."
 
UNLV will come to the `Runners with a record of 6-1-0, winning the last four in a row. For the Rebels Senior Sophie Cortes leads in assists (4) and is tied for the lead in goals (4) with red-shirt sophomore Michaela Morris. Sacramento State will match up with Bakersfield by about the same record of 4-3-0 for the season led by top goal scorer freshman Kylee Kim-Bustillos (4) and freshman Goalkeeper Aaliyah Fesili, who has played in the Hornets last 5 games, with a goals against average of .76.
 
Bakersfield will take on these take on these challenging team with the `Runners lead goal scorer Kamari Hines, who recorded 5 career goals for the `Runners on Sunday against Grambling. Hines also leads the WAC conference in goals for the start of the 2017 season.
 
Friday's match against UNLV is set to kick off at 7 p.m and Sunday's match is set to begin at 1 p.m. Both games can be watched live via WAC Digital Network, WACSPORTS.com. Cooler temps are expected for both games, so come on out and cheer on your `Runners at home!
