Men's Soccer Headed To Vegas For Tournament

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – After a week off to rest, focus, and train for the long season ahead, CSU Bakersfield's men's soccer team will return to action this weekend with a pair of matches. The Roadrunners are headed to Las Vegas, Nev., Sept. 15 and 17, to compete in the Johann Memorial Classic hosted by UNLV.

CSUB's Head Coach, Richie Grant, said that the time off was great for his young team, which features 20 underclassmen and just five upperclassmen. The week provided valuable time in a normally hectic schedule to learn and reflect from their successes and mistakes from the first two weeks of competition.

This week, the `Runners will head to Las Vegas to compete against a pair of tough teams in Gonzaga and St. Francis (Pa.). Gonzaga enters the week with a 3-2-0 record. The Bulldogs' Nick Ulowetz has scored five goals while Jakob Granlund has 14 points on the year. SFU is 3-3-0 this year while Mario Mastrangelo is averaging a goal every match with six on the season.

CSUB is set to play Gonzaga on Friday, Sept. 15, with kickoff scheduled for 4:30 p.m. The `Runners will wrap up the weekend on Sunday, Sept. 17, against St. Francis. Sunday's match is scheduled to being at 10:30 a.m. Live stats for both matches are available here, but there will not be live streams for CSUB's contests in Las Vegas.
