BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – After nearly a month of play filled with 10 road matches, CSU Bakersfield's volleyball team will finally return home and compete in front of its home crowd this week. The Roadrunners will begin a busy week on Tuesday, Sept. 12, with their home opener against Fresno State before heading to Southern California for a three-match tournament, Sept. 15-16.
"The team is excited to finally play at home," said Giovana Melo, Director of Volleyball at CSUB. "We have been waiting for it this entire preseason. We hope to get a good turnout."
Tuesday's contest will be an exciting rematch for the `Runners who will look for revenge against Fresno State. The Bulldogs hosted CSUB on Sept. 5 and took a straight-sets victory over CSUB at the Save Mart Center. The story may be different on Tuesday as the `Runners will have the home crowd at the Icardo Center supporting them. The Bulldogs enter the week with a 4-6 record and are led by Taylor Slover's 3.38 kills per set.
On Friday, the `Runners will head to Irvine, Calif. to compete in three matches at the UC Irvine/Long Beach State Tournament. CSUB will open the action with a doubleheader on Friday. The `Runners will face off against San Francisco (3-6) before closing the day against Montana State (4-2). Saturday will feature a single game for CSUB, a clash with the tournament host UC Irvine (8-1).
The home opener on Tuesday is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start here at the Icardo Center. Fans can buy tickets at the gate, but can save money on season tickets and/or purchase single-game tickets ahead of time here. CSUB will play USF at 10 a.m. before facing MSU at 5 p.m. on Friday. The final match of the week is scheduled for Saturday at 3 p.m. against UCI.
