Master Athletics Facilities Plan Released

New comprehensive facilities plan offers road map for future development and fundraising.

August 31, 2017

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.  -  After careful preparation CSU Bakersfield Athletics has unveiled the 'Master Athletics Facilities Plan' showcasing the future of facilities and renovations for the athletics department.

The master plan was developed by the Los Angeles-based architectural design, planning and consulting firm Gensler. Led by experts from its sports-practice area Gensler completed this project through on-site studies, visits and interviews. Gensler identified facility improvements through drawings and renderings and the final document provides a road map for CSUB to hone the athletics departments' focus on growing its programs and bettering the experiences of their student-athlete population.

The creation of the master plan for athletics facilities will also help CSUB Athletics in prioritizing structures, maximizing funding as it becomes available, and creating a fundraising plan centered around those priorities in the years to come.

Included in the plan are renovations to existing facilities including the Icardo Center, the Main Soccer Field, Hardt Field and the Track and Field facility. Many of the projects have already been completed or are currently underway, including renovation of the dining commons to house the new Kegley Center for Student Success which opened in September of 2016 and construction of replacement dugouts at the CSUB Softball Complex.
New facilities for athletics are also included in the master plan, including a new athletics building for Sports Medicine that would also include staff offices. A new 10,000 square-foot strength and conditioning center is also included in the plan.

Karen Langston, Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Affairs and Capital Projects: "This plan creates a roadmap to address specific needs that will be delivered through a combination of thoughtful renovations and innovative new construction projects in an intentional manner. We believe we have a plan that, when realized, will improve operational efficiency and create a stronger sense of community on campus."

Kenneth "Ziggy" Siegfried, Director of Athletics: "The CSUB Athletics Master Plan is right on time for what is needed for us to take the next step in all aspects of our department. The top priority for our department in this plan is to enhance the student-athlete experience for all our Student-Athletes. We have already made great progress with several projects in the Master Plan including the completion of Phase I of the Kegley Center for Student Success and significant upgrades to the CSUB Softball Complex. This is just the beginning of what will be a transformation of our facilities in the coming years."
