`Runners Set For Home Opener & Return To Texas

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – After the first of three road trips to Texas this season, the CSU Bakersfield women's soccer team is excited to return to Bakersfield and open up the home slate at the Main Soccer Field this week. The Roadrunners will get their first chance to play in front of their home fans on Wednesday, Aug. 23, against Cal Poly before traveling back to Texas to take on UTEP on Friday, Aug. 25.

Cal Poly will come to Bakersfield with an 0-2-0 record after dropping both games at the Hoosier Challenge Cup last weekend. Host Indiana opened up a 3-0 lead over the Mustangs and held on for a 3-1 victory on Friday. To close the weekend, SIUE had a 2-0 lead before Cal Poly tied the score at 2-2, but a 75th-minute goal by SIUE proved to be the gamewinner.

UTEP will welcome CSUB to El Paso with a 0-2-0 record as well. The Miners dropped a pair of 2-1, overtime matches on opening weekend including a road loss at Western Athletic Conference member New Mexico State. The Aggies netted the gamewinner in the 106th minute to take the victory. UTEP then fell at home against Abilene Christian with the Wildcats scoring the winner in the 99th minute.

CSUB (1-1-0) saw a well-rounded performance in its opening weekend with veterans and newcomers alike contributing to the team's success. The `Runners were led by redshirt junior Alexa Orrante, who scored twice and added as many assists for a total of six points in two games. Newcomers Aryana Harvey (2), Claire Nelson, and Kamari Hines each scored at least one goal while returners Aminah Settles and Haley Vicente netted one each to account for CSUB's eight goals.

Wednesday's match at the Main Soccer Field is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start at the Main Soccer Field. Single-game and season tickets can be purchased ahead of time at GoRunners.com/tix as well as at the gate. Fans who cannot make it to the match can watch live via the WAC Digital Network.
