FRESNO, Calif. – Rounding out a week with three different CSU Bakersfield athletic teams all competing at Fresno State, the Roadrunner women's swimming and diving team took on the Bulldogs on the road on Saturday. Fresno State took a 194-99 victory over the `Runners in Fresno.
"Fresno came to play today and we were a little short," said Chris Hansen, CSUB's Director of Swimming. "Jayssie Haynes, who is really tired from Nationals, showed up again to race strong. Gabi Liedy was also really impressive today. We have a long break and we are going to get busy with our training."
Haynes, a sophomore, won the 200 free early in the meet with a time of 1:55.03, edging Fresno State's Zofie Niemczak by just .08 seconds. The native of San Jose, Calif. placed second in the 200 breast (2:23.74) before finishing third in the 200 IM with a time of 2:11.36.
Liedy, a senior transfer, posted a personal best of 10:29.04 in the 1000 free and is now less than 3.5 seconds outside of CSUB's Top 5 all-time list in the event. Her time on Saturday was good enough for second place and the native of Highlands Ranch, Colo. went on to finish fourth in the 500 free with a mark of 5:14.79. Teammate Sabrina Zavala placed second in the 500 free in 5:12.61.
Sophomore Maddie Cosgrove placed second in the 100 free with a time of 53.93 while fellow sophomore Alisa Cooke was one place behind (54.37).
The `Runners (4-4) will have time to train with their next meet set for New Year's Eve. CSUB will take on San José State in Bakersfield with first event at the Hillman Aquatic Center scheduled for 10 a.m.
