BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield men's basketball team is set for their longest home non-conference stretch of the season, starting with two home games this weekend against Life Pacific and Idaho.
Friday, Dec. 8 is the `Runners annual Education Day game against Life Pacific with tipoff scheduled for 11 a.m. Life Pacific comes to the Icardo Center in Bakersfield with a 6-6 record, including 3-2 on the road and the Warriors are on a two game winning streak.
The Idaho Vandals come to Bakersfield with a 5-2 record, but they will have revenge on their mind. The `Runners defeated Idaho 64-62 just two weeks ago in the semifinals of the Great Alaska Shootout and this will be one of the rare times that Division I non-conference basketball teams play each other twice during the regular season.
Idaho must be thinking they let victory slip through their hands two weeks ago in Alaska. Freshman
Justin Davis drained a game winning three pointer with 1.8 seconds left after Idaho's Victor Sanders missed the front end of a one and one with seven seconds remaining to help propel the `Runners to the Finals of the GCI in Anchorage.
Sanders leads the Vandals in scoring at 21 a game and Brayon Blake is averaging a double double, 11.6 points and 10 rebounds a game. Senior
Shon Briggs of the `Runners continues to show off his all-around game and leads the `Runners in scoring at 11.5 a game and 6 rebounds a game. CSUB is also getting double digit scoring efforts from
Damiyne Durham,
Rickey Holden and
Jarkel Joiner.
The game against Life Pacific is an 11 a.m. tipoff and will be broadcast on the WAC Digital Network. The game against Idaho on Saturday evening is a 7 p.m. tipoff at the Icardo Center with the game being broadcast on ESPN3.
