`Runners Look For More Impressive Results At Fresno State

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield wrestling team will travel just a couple hours north on Friday for a match against the Fresno State Bulldogs.

"This is a very exciting dual for both our programs," said Head Coach Manny Rivera. "We get to rekindle an old rivalry between us and Fresno State. It is a great time for wrestling in the Golden State." The Bulldogs reinstated wrestling this season after more than a decade without the sport.

The `Runners are coming off a successful weekend in Las Vegas where they wrestled in one of the most prestigious tournaments of the year, the Cliff Keen Invitational. CSUB had four wrestlers advance to the second day of competition and also finished 12^th of 46 teams on the first day of competition.

Roadrunner Redshirt Matt Williams continues to be extremely impressive in his final year for CSUB as the senior placed fifth in Las Vegas. Coleman Hammond, CSUB senior from Bakersfield, also had a great tournament showing in Las Vegas by finishing sixth. And you may think sixth, ho hum. But Hammond lost his opening match of the tournament and came all the way back through the consolation bracket to place sixth.

Fresno State also competed in the Cliff Keen Invitational and the only time a `Runner and a Bulldog competed in the tournament was on the opening day. Hammond (157) won 8-1 by decision over Fresno State's Greg Gaxiola.

The `Runners and the Bulldogs meet begins at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 8 in Fresno, Calif. and will be broadcast on Flowrestling.
