`Runners Ready For Two Tough Road Games

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield women's basketball team (3-4) will look to bounce back from a tough loss at SMU this weekend with two road games at UC Riverside and South Dakota.

The `Runners and UC Riverside will be a preview of a Big West Conference matchup in 2020 when CSUB will enter the Big West.  The `Runners lost 71-66 to Riverside last year in Bakersfield in a game that saw CSUB win three of the four quarters, but a 23-8 run by the Highlanders in the second quarter was the difference.

The Highlanders come into the game on Wednesday, Dec. 6 with a 2-7 record overall, having lost four of their last five and are winless at home.  UC Riverside is led by senior Michelle Curry at almost 14 points a game and sophomore Skyler Lewis is averaging a little more than eight points and eight rebounds a game.

The `Runners will then travel to Vermillion for a game against the 4-4 South Dakota Coyotes on Saturday, Dec. 9.  The `Runners fell to South Dakota 75-60 last season at the Icardo Center in Bakersfield.

South Dakota is led by junior Allison Arens averaging 10 points a game.  Junior Jaycee Bradley is averaging a little more than eight points a game and three rebounds a game.  Bradley scored 26 points and had 7 rebounds in the victory in Bakersfield last season.

Aja Williams has really found her rhythm in the last few games for CSUB and now leads the team in scoring and rebounds.  The senior is now averaging 11.6 points a game and grabbing 6.6 boards a game.

Tipoff at Riverside is an 11 a.m. start and it will be the Highlanders Education Day game.  The game at South Dakota will start at 1 p.m. Central time, 11 a.m. West Coast time.
