Briggs 13 Points 9 Rebounds Not Enough At Fresno State

Box Score FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State Bulldogs extended their winning streak to five games with a 70-55 victory over the CSU Bakersfield men's basketball team behind Deshon Taylor's 19 points and Bryson Williams' double-double, 10 points and 13 rebounds.

The first ten minutes was a game of runs by both teams.  The `Runners would jump out to a 7-2 lead, before Fresno State would go on a 7-0 run to take a 9-7 lead.  CSUB would go on a 6-0 run, but the Bulldogs would go on another 7-0 run to take a 16-13 lead.

Fresno State would take a 28-26 lead into halftime behind Jahmel Taylor's nine points.  Shon Briggs led the `Runners in points and rebounds at the half, eight points and six rebounds.  Freshman Jarkel Joiner chipped in with seven points for CSUB.  Fresno State shot 50% from the field and 44% from three point laand.  The `Runners shot 37.5% from the field, 27% from three and CSUB outrebounded the Bulldogs 17-12.

The game of runs continued in the second half.  The Bulldogs reeled off 11 points in a row to open the half and a 16-1 run overall had Fresno State break out to a 44-27 lead with 13:14 remaining in the second half.   The Bulldogs eventually led 52-36 before the `Runners would go on a run.  CSUB would go on a 6-0 run to cut Fresno State's lead to 10 with six minutes to play in the game, but that would be as close as the `Runners would get.

`Runners Head Coach Rod Barnes said after the game, "We wanted to try to do some different things because they've (Fresno State) been playing well, scoring a lot of points and we wanted to make them think a little bit more on the defensive end.  The first 20 minutes went our way, but the second 20 minutes went their way."  Barnes went on to add, "I told our guys we were better tonight.  We played with more fire and executed better tonight, than Saturday night."

Briggs led the `Runners with 13 points and nine rebounds.  The Bulldogs improve to 7-2 on the season and CSUB falls to 4-6.

The `Runners will be back in action on Friday, Dec. 8 for their annual Education Day game at the Icardo Center in Bakersfield against Life Pacific with tipoff schedule for 11 a.m.
