`Runners Return Home After Four Road Games

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—CSU Bakersfield's women's basketball team are returning home after four tough road games. The Roadrunners will look to bounce back from a tough loss at South Dakota last weekend with two home games against Whitter College and Omaha coming up.

"We're 44 in the country, with scoring defense which is impressive," said head coach Greg McCall. "It means we are doing some good things on the defensive end but we just got to do a better job at just coming down and generating offense."

The `Runners will play against Whitter College (2-5) first on a doubleheader game with the men's teams, who will play earlier at the Icardo Center. CSUB hopes to get their offense rolling with the next two home games and grab a boost a confidence against the Poets.

Coach McCall is confident the `Runners offense is developing in the right direction, "I can tell it's coming, the girls are improving and they know it. They're working on their offense and will continue to practice and get better at it. We will be back at home at on our floor, no one knows our buckets more than we do. We won our last two games here and we are looking forward to being back home and show the world we can score again."

Monday, Bakersfield will welcome, another tough opponent, the Mavericks with a current record of 7-3. As a team, Omaha is averaging 69.7 points per game and outscoring their opponents by 2.2 points per game. Defensively, the Nebraskan team is holding off its opponents to 67.5 points a game. However, CSUB is holding their opponents to only 57.4 points per game. The team is led by juniors Jess Walters who averages 14.3 points per game, 4.5 rebounds per game and 30 assists while Amber Vidal averages 12.5 points per game, 3.6 rebounds per game and has 51 assists.

CSUB will play at the Icardo Center on Saturday afternoon for a scheduled tip-off at 4:30 p.m. and then will return for a Monday night game at 7 p.m. Roadrunner fans are not going to want to miss a full day of Roadrunner Basketball as the men's team will play first at 2 p.m. against Georgia Southern. Live stats and video will be available for fans who cannot make the home games. The links can be found on the women's basketball schedule page.
