'Runners Looking For Third Victory In A Row

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield men's basketball team (6-6) will look for a little revenge on Saturday afternoon at the Icardo Center when the `Runners host Georgia Southern.

CSUB's first road game of the season back in mid-November was at Georgia Southern and the `Runners lost 77-53.  The `Runners lost a huge core of last year's team coming into this season, so the loss at Georgia Southern, a team that returned over 90% of its scoring, may not have been the biggest surprise.

Georgia Southern comes to Bakersfield with a record of 8-2, winners of three in a row and are ranked 15th in the College Insider Mid-Major Top 25 men's basketball poll.  The Eagles have victories over Wake Forest, Missouri State and Western Athletic Conference member UMKC.

The `Runners season has been a season of runs.  CSUB opened the season with a win, but then lost two in a row before going on a three-game winning streak and then losing four in a row.  But since the four-game losing streak, the `Runners have won two in a row, including an emotional victory their last time out over Idaho in Bakersfield.

CSUB's Head Coach Rod Barnes said, "The win over Idaho gives our team confidence.  They are a talented team and a veteran team.  It was a game from start to finish that we played very well in."  Barnes added, "Our defense from our guards has been better, especially Jarkel Joiner and Rickey Holden, plus the health of Brent Wrapp has really helped us."

"We want to be better than we were three to four weeks ago, but they are a good team and an experienced team," Barnes said about the revenge factor with Georgia Southern.

Before tipoff on Saturday, Dec. 16 at 2 p.m. the Monster Energy Fan Fest will take place from 12 p.m. - 2 p.m.  Free Monster Energy drinks, free food, prizes and games will be going on under the "Champions Made Here" signage at the Icardo Center, so make sure to get here early and support the `Runners. CSUB's women will be competing against Whittier immediately after the `Runner men and admission to the men's game grants free admission to the women's game as well.
