Roadrunners Head Out For The NCAA Tournament Against Stanford

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield women's volleyball team is on to bigger and better things, the BIG DANCE that is. The Roadrunners received their automatic bid to the NCAA Division I tournament after a crazy upset battle with the top two WAC teams to become the 2017 WAC Tournament Champions, its second title in four years.

"This is an amazing opportunity for us," said Giovana Melo, CSUB women's volleyball head coach. "Being a part of the NCAA tournament is very exciting. We are going to play against a very good and physical Stanford team. I am looking forward to it watch us compete against them and see what we can do."

Sunday, the `Runners patiently waited a long week to find out that CSUB will take their first dance with the No. 3 seeded tournament team, Stanford. However, the Cardinal and Bakersfield have been dance partners before in the 2014 Tournament, the only other time the `Runners made their run to the NCAA Tournament.

In 2014 Stanford hosted the `Runners in their first tournament appearance and swept Bakersfield in the first round. Stanford had improved its record to 30-1 that year and finished third in the tournament, but the `Runners put up a good fight with set scores of 25-21, 25-21, and 25-18.

This year, the `Runners (19-13, 9-5 WAC) will head to Stanford, Calif. again for the match schedule for 7 p.m. (PT) on Friday, Dec. 1. Stanford, the defending National Champions, earned the third overall seed in the NCAA Tournament after posting a 24-3 record on the year. Bakersfield is hopeful about the tournament and getting the upset the so well deserve.
