BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield women's basketball team will look to break a two game losing streak on Wednesday night, Nov. 22, when they host Cal State Fullerton.
The Titans are also on a two game losing streak, so something has to give at the Icardo Center in Bakersfield.
The `Runners are coming off a 57-34 defeat to the ninth ranked team in the country, Stanford. But there were some bright spots for CSUB at Stanford. Most importantly, the `Runners only allowed 21 points after halftime to a perennial national power, on the road. Plus, the `Runners only lost by a total of three points in the second half after falling behind by 20 at the half.
CSUB Head women's basketball Coach,
Greg McCall, preaches hard work, consistency and defense for forty minutes. And for Coach McCall, it must be nice to know what kind of team he has after only four games. If there was ever a time a team could lay down, it would have been at Stanford. Down 20, on the road, to a top 10 team and Coach McCall's team comes out and puts a strong defensive effort together to almost win the second half is a testament to his coaching staff and this team.
Cal State Fullerton comes to Bakersfield with a 1-2 record and coming off a 59-58 heartbreaking defeat at San Diego State. After the Titans won their season opener at Santa Clara, Fullerton has lost at Pacific and at SDSU. This will be the end of a four game season opening road trip before having their home opener on Saturday, Nov. 25 against Portland.
Fullerton have three players averaging double figures in scoring. Junior Jade Vega leads the team in scoring at 12.7 points a game.
CSUB has a balanced scoring attack and have a ton of depth. The `Runners have played ten players in every game and only four players average more than 20 minutes a game and continually have a fresh five on the floor at all times.
Aja Williams is leading the `Runners in scoring at almost ten points a game and is grabbing a little more than five boards a game, which is second on the team.
Again, Wednesday, Nov. 22, the `Runners host Cal State Fullerton at the Icardo Center with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m. Make it a night out with the family and support your `Runners the night before Thanksgiving.
