BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield women's basketball team will travel to El Paso, TX on Saturday, Nov. 11 to open the 2017-18 regular season against UTEP.
The `Runners will have revenge on their mind after losing at UTEP last year 74-61. CSUB trailed by 13 in the first quarter, but were able to cut the lead to two with 7:37 remaining in the game, but in the end the `Runners fell short. CSUB did get 13 points and six rebounds from now senior
Aja Williams and 12 points and seven boards from now senior
Jazmyne Bartee.
Bartee was voted onto the 2017-18 Preseason All-WAC First team and
Aja Williams voted onto the Second team, so obviously CSUB Head women's basketball Coach
Greg McCall has a quality foundation to build game plans around each and every game this year.
When Coach McCall was asked about what he was looking for going into the season, he said, "Go out and play hard. Try and do the small things. Staying down on defense and communicating. We also just want to get them on the floor and see what they're like with fans in the stands. My biggest thing is I want to see them play hard for 40 minutes."
The `Runners will be looking to build off of a 15-14 season a year ago that included a 10-4 record in the WAC. The `Runners season ended with an overtime loss to Utah Valley at the WAC tournament.
The `Runners will tipoff with the Miners at 1 p.m. mountain time on Saturday afternoon.
