BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield women's soccer team will open up Western Athletic Conference play on the road this weekend against New Mexico State and UTRGV.
The `Runners will travel to New Mexico State on Friday, Oct. 6 with kickoff scheduled for 2 p.m. (3 p.m. MT) and then head to Edinburg, TX on Oct. 8 to play UTRGV with a 9 a.m. kickoff (11 a.m. CST).
CSUB will start conference play with a 5-7 record, but they have lost four in a row entering WAC play. The `Runners are led by Junior
Alexa Orrante and her team leading 12 points, five goals and two assists, as well as Freshman
Kamari Hines 11 points, five goals and 1 assist. Hines is tied for sixth in the country in Game Winning Goals. `Runners central midfielder
Sabrina Delgado is really a big key to CSUB's success. Her defensive play in the midfield has really allowed Orrante to push forward and create scoring opportunities for the `Runners.
New Mexico State is led by fourth year Head Coach Freddy Delgado and will enter WAC play with a 6-6-1 record. Both CSUB and NMSU defeated UTEP in double OT and both beat Grambling State by a goal and those are the only two opponents that both teams have played.
The Aggies are led by Sophomore Audriana Chavez's seven goals and four assists and that puts her in 28
th place in the country in total points. Junior Devin Hart leads NMSU in assists with five and she also has scored five goals.
UTRGV will enter WAC play with a record of 5-5-2 and are led by Head Coach Glad Bugariu. Andreya Barrera leads UTRGV in goals with four and Sarah Bonney leads the team with three assists.
The `Runners will return home on Friday, Oct. 13 to continue WAC play against UMKC.
