BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield Men's soccer team will look to continue their winning ways in the Western Athletic Conference this weekend with two home games against Grand Canyon University and UNLV.
First, on Friday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. the `Runners will host GCU who is 4-5 on the season, 1-0 in the WAC, but they are winless on the road, 0-4. The Lopes defeated Houston Baptist on Sunday 5-2 to open up WAC play behind Musa Morris-Demo's two goals. GCU is led in points by Niki Jackson and his four goals and 2 assists.
CSUB will come into the weekend with a 3-6 record, 1-1 in the WAC and are coming off an emotional, card filled conference victory over Utah Valley on Sunday that saw both teams play most of the second half with 10 men. The `Runners Captain,
Jamie Carey-Morrell, scored from the spot early in the second half to help the `Runners break a five game losing streak. It was the senior's team leading third goal of the season and
Detre Bell made four saves and earned his third shutout of the season.
The `Runners will wrap up the weekend against the Rebels of UNLV on Sunday, Oct 8 at 1 p.m. The Rebels come to Bakersfield with a 4-6 record and a 1-0 record in the WAC after defeating conference rival Houston Baptist 3-1 in Las Vegas on Thursday. But similar to GCU, the Rebels have struggled on the road as well with a 1-4 record. The Rebels are led by the WAC's all-time leading scorer Danny Musovski and his 38 career goals.
Friday night is going to be a special night at Main Soccer Field. CSUB will celebrate the 20 year anniversary of the `Runners NCAA soccer championship.
