CSUB Continues Its Race To First Place

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - CSU Bakersfield women's volleyball team are taking the high road this weekend for two tough league matches. First match up will feature Utah Valley then a trip up to Washington to take on Seattle U. After this past weekend's home matches, the Roadrunners are currently in first place in WAC standings with a record of 7-2 and the pressure is on to keep their place.

"This week will be a very tough road trip for us," says Giovana Melo, Director of Volleyball at CSUB. "We need to be very disciplined to get a good outcome this weekend."

The `Runners will open their road matches against Utah Valley who are currently placed at third in the standings with a record of 5-3 in WAC. The Wolverines gave Bakersfield a run for their money last time they met at home. The teams went to five straight sets and CSUB won by two points in the fifth set. Utah is led by seniors Lexi Thompson (3.37 k/s) and Madison Dennison (2.47 k/s).

Saturday's match will be at Seattle U, who are right behind UTV for fourth in WAC standings with a record of 4-4. The Redhawks are looking to keep their spot or better in order to stay as contingents for WAC post season play. Washington is led by sophomore Katarina Marinkovic with 3.52 kills per set and freshman Tijana Milojevic with 5.01 digs per set.

The `Runners know the pressure is on to stay at first place and hope to win both road matches this weekend.
