`Runners Fall To UNLV In WAC Dual

LAS VEGAS, NV – The CSU Bakersfield men's swimming and diving team traveled to UNLV for a Western Athletic Conference dual on Saturday afternoon looking to improve to 2-1 on the season, after defeating Pacific last weekend in Bakersfield.

But UNLV came out strong and won the meet 182-111 to drop the `Runners  to 1-2 on the season.  Despite the loss, there were a few standouts for CSUB.

Kris Rogic, a freshman from Croatia, continues to impress for the `Runners.  Rogic won the 100 backstroke with a time of 50.15, which was .10 better than last weekend when the freshman won the event against Pacific.  Rogic also finished second in the 200 IM (1:56.12) and second in the 200 back (1:51.90)Despite the tough result, CSUB's Director of swimming and diving, Chris Hansen, was still able to see the positive results from a certain few on the squad.

"We had a rough day," Hansen said.  "UNLV came ready and to be blunt we were off. Kris Rogic continues to show us he is here to play and defiantly led the men today. Loren Gillilan, Adam Estrella and Lovre Soric also had great swims. To win meets like this we need the entire team to swim great, that didn't happen today."

The two freshmen divers, Adam Estrella and Andrew Huerts, both finished the diving events with personal bests. Estrella won the three meter diving event with a score of 251.48 and finished third in the one meter diving event (39.40).  Huerta had a score of 193.80 in the one meter and 200.03 in the three meter dive to finish fourth in both events.

Loren Gillilan, a freshman from Fort Collins, CO, finished second in the 100 freestyle (46.49), third in the 50 yard freestyle (21.20).  Senior Lovre Soric won the 200 IM with a winning time of 1:53.87 and finished third in the 200 freestyle (1:42.93).  Jake Chir, a junior from Henderson, NV, swam a 57.30 in the 100 backstroke and a 2:08.13 in the 200 breaststroke to finish third in both events.  Sophomore Noah Hultner finished second in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 9:46.52.

The `Runners are back in action Saturday, Oct. 28 when they face off against the University of Hawaii at CSUB.
