`Runners Set To Host Golden Game Friday & Chicago St. Sunday

BAKERSFIELD, CA – The CSU Bakersfield women's soccer team (5-8-1, 0-1-1 WAC) will play two important Western Athletic Conference games this weekend against rivals UMKC and Chicago State.

First, on Friday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. the `Runners will host UMKC in their Golden Game.  The Roos come into Bakersfield with a 7-6-1 record and 2-0 in WAC play.  But that does not tell the entire story.  UMKC has won five of its last six games and the only goal they have allowed during that stretch was in a 1-0 defeat at Illinois State.  The Roos are led by Lexie Howard's 19 points and Kelsey Mothershead's 13 points.

On Sunday, Oct. 15, the `Runners will kickoff at 1 p.m. against Chicago State at Main Soccer Field.  The Cougars will come to Bakersfield with a 1-14 overall record and 0-2 in WAC play.  Jensyn Stanberry leads Chicago State with three goals and 1 assist for seven points.

"It goes without saying that this is a huge weekend for our program," `Runners Head Coach Gary Curneen said.  "We were disappointed to leave Texas and New Mexico without a win and will be working at our maximum to make sure that we perform. We will need every ounce of energy from the home crowd to get the results we so badly want and all the players are excited to compete and test ourselves again in the big games."
