`Runners Hit The Road To Protect Undefeated WAC Record

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - CSU Bakersfield women's volleyball team stays on top of the WAC as they continue to be undefeated and improving their record to 5-0, 12-8. This weekend they are headed for two road matches against conference opponents, who sit right below the Roadrunners in WAC standings, New Mexico State and UTRGV.

CSUB are ready to take on both teams taking one game at a time to stay consistent. "We have a big week ahead of us. We are playing two really good teams," says Giovana Melo, Director of Volleyball at CSUB. "I am excited to go battle against them."

The `Runners will open their first road match of the weekend against New Mexico State, who currently sit at number three in WAC standings with a record of 3-2, 11-7. The Aggies lead in the conference in assists per set (12.80) and are tied with the `Runners for the lead in kills per set (13.55). New Mexico is led by Junior Briana Ainsworth 6.12 assists per set and senior Kassandra Tohm at 3.26 kills per set.

To wrap up the road games for the weekend the `Runners will take on UTRGV in Texas on Saturday afternoon. The Vaqueros will host Bakersfield with a record of 4-1, 10-8 before playing a Friday conference game against Grand Canyon. UTRGV is only one game behind the `Runners and are most likely looking to end CSUB's undefeated conference record. The team is led by junior Ragni Steen Knudsen with 3.66 kills per set and 2.11 digs per set.

The first match on Thursday is scheduled for a 7 p.m (MT) start time in New Mexico. Saturday's game will have an earlier start time of 12 p.m (CT) in Texas. `Runner fans will be able to watch live stream of both league matches via WAC Digital Network.
