BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Roadrunner softball team heads to Kansas City, Mo. this week to play the Missouri-Kansas City Kangaroos on Friday and Saturday afternoon. Friday's game is the first of a three-game series to begin the second week of the Western Athletic Conference portion of the Roadrunners' schedule.
The 'Runners and 'Roos had never met before CSUB joined the WAC in 2014. Since then, UMKC has a slight, 4-3 series lead. In each of the first two seasons, the 'Roos took the season series 2-1, but CSUB defeated UMKC at the WAC Tournament last May in an 8-7 slugfest.
The Roadrunners hosted Utah Valley in the conference opener last weekend. CSUB went 2-1 against the Wolverines, and is looking to use this two-game win streak as momentum into this week's matchup against the 'Roos. Senior Sydney Raeber surpassed 500 career at bats last week. Raeber now stands at 511 in her four-year career, good for fourth in CSUB Division I history.
CSUB (10-22, 2-1 WAC) will travel to UMKC (10-17, 2-1 WAC) this week. The 'Roos are led by the reigning WAC Pitcher of the Week, Katie Kelley. This is the third WAC honor of the season (one hitter, two pitcher) and seventh of her career (four hitter, three pitcher) for Kelley.
CSUB's Head Coach, Crissy Buck-Ziegler, commented on the upcoming three-game series saying, "UMKC is coming off a great weekend and so are we, so, the matchup should be a good one. Both teams play hard against each other and the games will be three good ones."
Friday, Apr. 8, will feature a doubleheader with the first game beginning at 2 p.m. (CT) and the second game starting at 4 p.m. (CT) at the Missouri 3&2 Softball Complex. First pitch of Game 3 of the series will take place Saturday at 12 p.m. (CT).
Live stats will be available for all three games and links can be found on the CSUB softball schedule page.
