CSUB Softball Prepared For Home Opener, UCSB Tourney

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Roadrunner softball team has entered its busiest week of the season as CSU Bakersfield will play seven games this week. CSUB starts out the week with its home opener on Wednesday before traveling south for UC Santa Barbara's Gaucho Classic II, Mar. 24-26.

“We are excited to finally play at home,” said Crissy Buck-Ziegler, Head Coach of the 'Runners. “With the improvements that were made this off-season, I know the girls are really looking forward to playing for their home fans. Fullerton has a great team and they always come to play.”

Buck-Ziegler and the 'Runners will play host to Cal State Fullerton on Wednesday, Mar. 23, in a doubleheader. First pitch of the first game is scheduled to be thrown at 1 p.m. at the Roadrunner Softball Complex. The stadium will show off massive improvements including a brand-new backstop, complete with state-of-the-art netting.

After CSUB takes on the Titans, the 'Runners will have no time to rest as the Gaucho Classic II begins Mar. 24. Bakersfield will open the tournament with a pair of games on Thursday against San Diego and host UC Santa Barbara. Friday will feature the first of two games against Santa Clara, the team CSUB defeated 10-2 to close out last weekend's tournament. The 'Runners will finish the Classic on Saturday with another game against Santa Clara and a final game against San Diego.

“This weekend will be our last weekend before we start conference,” Buck-Ziegler said. “It would be great to have some good momentum heading in to the WAC.” Next week, the 'Runners host a midweek doubleheader against CSUN before opening Western Athletic Conference play, Apr. 1-2, in a three-game series against Utah Valley.

New to CSUB softball this season is ticketed games. The CSUB ticketing staff has already started selling season and single-game tickets and will be outside of the Roadrunner Softball Complex before each game to sell tickets to fans.
