FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Carlee Burks and Brayden Greenwald wrapped up the 2016 NCAA Zone E Diving Championships with the platform on Wednesday. Greenwald placed 23rd on the tower, while Burks was 37th on the women's side in an event the 'Runners only attempt a few times a season.
“Carlee put together a very solid list today on tower,” said Ben Herboth, the Roadrunners' Diving Coach. “She didn't miss a dive. Her score was about 16 points higher than she scored last year and 15 points off of her personal best. We are going to work this offseason on increasing her degree of difficulty on the platform. All in all, I was pleased with how she competed today and the meet as a whole. I'm really looking forward to seeing what she can accomplish next season.”
In the morning preliminaries, Burks posted her second-best career score from the tower. The native of Bakersfield finished 37th in the 45-woman field with 186.75 points. The junior was less than 30 points outside of the Top 18, which advanced to the finals on Wednesday.
Greenwald closed the meet by placing 23rd on the men's platform. The sophomore from Henderson, Nev. scored 158.75 points to finish last in the 23-man pool.
“Brayden didn't have the best day today on the platform,” Herboth said. “He was inconsistent with his list, but overall, I was real proud of him for his first Zone competition and hopefully can use this as a springboard for next season.”
CSU Bakersfield's swimming and diving season is now officially over. The 'Runners will take pride in having earned multiple WAC titles and many All-Conference honors this season and will ride the momentum into offseason training.
