BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—CSU Bakersfield will look for its 10th dual win for the first time since the 2008-09 season when the Roadrunners host Oregon State Saturday. The 'Runners (9-3, 2-0 Pac-12) will welcome the Beavers (6-5, 0-1 Pac-12) to Centennial High School for the 5 p.m. meet.
This is the 36th meet between Oregon State and CSUB with the Beavers leading the all-time series 24-11. OSU has won seven in a row in the series dating back to Jan. 18, 2008 when the 'Runners defeated the Beavers 21-19.
The four-time and defending Pac-12 Champions, the Beavers will wrestle all three California members of the Pac-12 this week. OSU is at Stanford Thursday, Cal Poly Friday, and at CSUB Saturday. As a team, the Beavers are ranked anywhere from 21st (Intermat) to 26th (Win Magazine).
Oregon State has the top ranked wrestler in the Pac-12 at 125 (Ronnie Bresser), and 165 (Seth Thomas). Bresser is ranked in five national polls with a high of sixth in the Intermat, Win Magazine, and Wrestling Report Polls. Heavyweight Amarveer Dhesi is ranked in five national polls as well. He is ninth in Flo Wrestling, The Open Mat, and Win Magazine polls.
Dhesi was named Pac-12 Wrestler of the Week Feb. 2. Dhesi, a redshirt sophomore, won both of his matches and stretched his winning streak to four in a row this weekend with a major decision over No. 12 Tanner Hall of Arizona State on Jan. 29 and a pin of Northern Colorado's Jack Kuck on Jan. 31. Dhesi (18-3) avenged his loss to Hall on Dec. 29 with a 12-4 major decision and then went on to earn his sixth pin of the season to defeat Kuck.
As a team, the Roadrunners are ranked in two polls this week. CSUB enters the WrestlingReport dual rankings at No. 30 while the program is ranked 34th in WIN Magazine's TPI index. Five Roadrunners appear in the six weekly national rankings this week. Reuben Franklin (197) and Bryce Hammond appear in all six polls. Hammond's highest ranking is seventh in the Intermat poll while Franklin is eighth in both the Win Magazine and Intermat polls.
