Box Score OREM, Utah—No. 24 Utah Valley defeated CSU Bakersfield 3-0 in a Western Athletic Conference men's soccer match Thursday night.
The Wolverines (8-3, 1-1 WAC) took a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute when Gui Leme stole the ball from freshman goalie Antony Siaha and sliding an attempt into bottom right corner of the CSUB net. Paul Hoffmeister's header in the 29th minute gave UVU a 2-0 advantage. Aaron Meyer's penalty kick a minute later resulted in a 3-0 Utah Valley lead.
CSUB improved in the second half, outshooting the Wolverines 4-2 after being outshot 9-2 in the first half. Siaha made three saves in his debut for the 'Runners.
"Tonight was a disappointing performance and we got what we deserved," said CSUB head coach Richie Grant. "We need a huge response from the program at home on Saturday."
The Roadrunners (2-9, 0-3 WAC) return home Saturday when the Roadrunners host San José State (1-9-2, 0-2-1 WAC). The match will begin at 7 p.m. and will be streamed on the Roadrunner Sports Network.
