BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—Bonus points were the order of the day as CSU Bakersfield defeated San Francisco State 32-12 Sunday afternoon.
The dual opened at 197 pounds where CSUB's Reuben Franklin, ranked seventh in Division I, pinned Calvin Nicholls with six seconds remaining in the first period to give the Roadrunners a 6-0 lead. At heavyweight, the Gators' Sam Alnassiri and the 'Runners Matt Williams wrestled to a 4-4 tie at the end of regulation, but by virtue of over two minutes in riding time, Alnassri was awarded the bonus point and earned 5-4 decision.
Sergio Mendez would extend the CSUB lead to 12-3 when he pinned Christian Ramos 1:20 into the 125-pound bout. Carlos Herrera recorded a major decision for four team points when he defeated Fernando Giron 10-1.
Josh Weinberg posted a 11-7 decision over Tyler Lawrence at 141 before Coleman Hammond earned a Roadrunner major, 10-1, at 149 against Dylan Furtado. AJ Fierro continued the winning streak for the Roadrunners when he defeated Tavis Ino 6-2 at 157 pounds. San Francisco State won for the final time at 165 pounds when Tyson Kuahine pinned Bryan Battisto.
Bryce Hammond recorded the second fastest pin of his career when he stuck Mike Marshall in just 44 seconds of the first period in the 174-pound bout. Jesus Ambriz rounded out the day for CSUB with a 14-8 victory at 184 pounds against Gabriel Fuentes.
