BAKERSFIELD, Calif.-- CSU Bakersfield women's golf team hosted its first home event in two years on Friday, falling to CSUN 312-301. Despite the loss at Rio Bravo Country Club, the Roadrunners posted the lowest single-round team score in CSUB history (312, +24).
“Hats off to CSUN,” said Meghan Thomason, Bakersfield's Interim Director of Golf. “They played well. We have some positive momentum going into conference, which is great.”
Arinda Bhanaraksa came into the clubhouse as the individual leader, posting a score of 72. Jordanne Barr (Sr., Bakersfield, Calif., Frontier HS) and Ariel Lee (Fr., Singapore, Methodist Girls' School) tied for second at 3-over-par (75). Their 18-hole scores are now tied with four other Roadrunners for the sixth-best single-round score all-time.
Rounding out the CSUB scoring four was Julia Stewart (Fr., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield Christian HS), who shot a 79, and Tori Peers (Fr., Grand Island, Neb., Grand Island HS), who came into the clubhouse with an 83.
The team score of 312 helped the 'Runners reset the CSUB all-time single-round record. Thomason's squad tied the previous record twice this year with duplicate rounds of 315 (+27). Friday's round bested the record by three strokes.
With the match against CSUN, the 'Runners have concluded their regular season. CSUB will return to Arizona, Apr. 20-22, for the Western Athletic Conference Championships. The 54-hole, three-day tournament will be hosted by Grand Canyon at the Wigwam Golf Course in Litchfield Park, Ariz.
