CSUB Drops Finale at UVU, Rematch Set For WAC Tourney

Box Score OREM, UT- Utah Valley converted on 14-of-25 from three-point range including eight of their first nine from beyond-the-arc as the CSUB Roadrunners dropped their second road game in a row falling to the Wolverines 74-69 Saturday night.

The loss concluded the regular season WAC schedule for the Roadrunners and following their loss, CSUB will face Utah Valley once again Thursday to open up the WAC Tournament in Las Vegas.

CSUB led only after the first basket as the Wolverines hit their first seven three-point attempts to control the half. The 'Runners tied the game once in the first frame only to give up a 12-0 run to Utah Valley who led 39-29 at the half.

Utah Valley didn't stop draining shots from three-point range in the second half as Zach Nelson turned in another career peformance knocking down three early three-pointers to extend the Wolverine lead to 17 points.

Bakersfield didn't quit however and turned to the bench for help where Dashawn Richmond (Jr., Staten Island, N.Y., Broward CC) scored 14 points to pull CSUB within two points at 57-55 with 11 minutes to play.

Following a CSUB timeout however Utah Valley went on an 8-2 run pulling away from the 'Runners in the process. Bakersfield made a few late shots inside the final minute before eventually falling to the Wolverines.

Bakersfield shot the ball well all night including a 45% mark in the second half from the field but managed only 2-of-11 from three-point range an were 20-of-30 from the free-throw line. The 'Runners turned in a season-low four turnovers in the loss. Aly Ahmed (Jr., Alexandria, Egypt, Midland CC) led CSUB with 17 points and 10 rebounds for his eighth double-double of the year. Javonte Maynor (R-Sr, Atlanta, Ga., Georgia State) scored 12 for the Roadrunners as well.

Nelson led Utah Valley with his career-high 29 including 7-of-11 from three-point range. Donte Williams added 19 points for Utah Valley on 6-of-9 from the field and 3-of-5 from three-point range.

With the results Saturday in the WAC, CSUB will be the number-four seed in the conference tournament and will face Utah Valley again Thursday in the first round at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. Tip off is scheduled for 2 P.M.
