BAKERSFIELD, Calif.-- With the Western Athletic Conference Championships concluding the season for the majority of CSU Bakersfield's swimmers, two Roadrunner divers will try to extend their seasons at the NCAA Zone E Diving Championships. Sarah Barker (Jr., Indianapolis, Ind., Saint Bonaventure) and Carlee Burks (So., Bakersfield, Calif., Centennial HS) will head to Colorado Springs, Colo., Mar. 9-11, to try to qualify for the NCAA Championships at the end of the month.
“We are all excited for the opportunity for Sarah and Carlee to be able to compete at the zone meet,” said Ben Herboth, the diving coach at CSUB. “They have put in the hard work this season and I'm proud to be able to coach them. I think we have a chance to surprise some people.”
Burks and Barker both qualified for the Zone E meet at the Inland Empire Diving Invitational in November. Barker put up a season-high score on the 1-meter board (271.95) to qualify. Barker just barely reached the 265-point minimum with a score of 265.90 at 1-meter but easily qualified on the 3-meter board (294.75) with the third-best mark for CSUB all-time. The sophomore from Bakersfield will attempt to wow the judges with her performance as Burks has the highest degree of difficulty of any NCAA Division I diver in any of the Zone meets on the 1-meter board (15.40).
Both Roadrunners will take on the 3-meter competition on Monday morning, Mar. 10. The pair will tackle the 1-meter board on Tuesday before concluding the meet on Wednesday with the platform. Live stats will be available at divemeets.com and full results and recaps can be found here at the conclusion of each day of competition.
