DENVER – Texas-Pan American's Trevion Williams and Bakersfield's Bryan Wilmert have been named the Western Athletic Conference men's track and field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for March 9-15.
Williams, a junior from Houston, Texas (Village HS), won the 400-meter dash at the Islanders Open last weekend after competing in the event for the first time in his career. He posted a time of 49.26 seconds while posting the fastest time in both the Division I and non-division I sections. Williams also posted a fifth place finish in the 200-meter dash with a career-best time of 22.20 seconds and also helped his 4x400-meter relay team to a third place finish after they posted a time of 3:23.43.
Wilmert, a senior from Bakersfield, Calif. (Liberty HS), finished fourth in the competitive throwing ring at the Ben Brown Invitational on Friday. Wilmert, the 2014 hammer throw champion, finished 4th in the event at 59.85 meters (196-04) which ranks first in the WAC so far this season. His season best from the weekend was also just eight inches shy of his personal best.
