CSUB was led by Kevin Mays' 24 points and 14 rebounds as he recorded his fourth double-double of the season while going 9-of-14 from the field and a perfect 6-of-6 from the free-throw line. Mays also recorded seven offensive rebounds, three steals and a block for the Roadrunners who recorded a school Division I-record nine blocks. Justin Hollins finished with five blocks which was one shy of a CSUB single-game record.

“I thought our guys really defended well tonight, they followed the game plan for the most part and I thought they played with a lot of energy,” said head coach Rod Barnes. “I was pleased with our team, I thought we had some guys that really stepped up tonight and I was really happy with what we accomplished tonight.”

The Roadrunners (4-3) trailed only briefly in the first half at 3-2 before outscoring the Lumberjacks (2-6) 18-2 over the next five minutes to take their first of many double-digit leads of the evening. The Lumberjacks responded with a 9-0 run of their own to cut the 'Runners lead down to five with just under eight minutes left in the half. The 'Runners however, sparked by 14 first-half points from Damiyne Durham rallied the remainder of the second half going on a 13-2 run to build a 39-25 half time lead.

In the second half CSUB never trailed and managed to stave off a couple of Northern Arizona attempts to shrink the lead thanks to defensive turnovers and transition baskets. One of the most important was Durham's lone three-pointer of the second half which came off a Mays steal and an assist from Dedrick Basile. That shot extended the CSUB lead to 19 points with 12:23 to play and capped off a 13-2 run for Bakersfield after the Lumberjacks had cut the lead to seven.

Durham finished with 19 for the Roadrunners on 7-of-17 from the field and 5-of-13 from three-point range. Basile added 12 for CSUB who played much of the second half without Aly Ahmed who picked up his fourth personal foul with just over 14 minutes remaining in the period. The 'Runners managed without his services thanks to the post play of Mays and rebounding of Brent Wrapp who finished the game with nine boards including five offensive rebounds and five assists.

“Kevin being a senior was really disappointed in our last game against Idaho and he felt like he really let us down in the game,” Barnes said. “It was a huge thing for us for him to step up and that's what you want from senior leadership, to step up when you really need it.”

Northern Arizona was led by junior guard Chris Yanku's 13 points, seven of which came from the free-throw line. Yanku was the only Lumberjack in double figures as NAU was held to just 16-of-57 (28%) from the field and 5-of-20 from three-point range. The 'Runners were 26-64 (41%) and 7-of-20 (35%) from the three while outrebounding the Lumberjacks 46-40 and outscoring them in the paint 38-22.

The Roadrunners remain a perfect 4-0 at home and will continue to look for their first road win Saturday, December 12 at South Dakota. That game is scheduled for a 5:30 P.M. (CT) tip off and can be heard on Newstalk 1180 and 96.1 FM KERN beginning at 3 P.M. Pacific time.
