Roadrunners Close Winter Nationals With Fast Swims

FEDERAL WAY, Wash.— The CSU Bakersfield swimming team wrapped up the 2015 AT&T Winter Nationals on Saturday morning All six of the Roadrunners who traveled to compete for CSUB performed well, posting strong times all week.

After qualifying for the Canadian Olympic Trials in the 100 breaststroke on Friday, Dylana Milobar swam a time trial in the 200 breast Saturday. The junior from Kamloops, B.C. finished with a time of 2:40.39, less than a second and a half off the Candian Trials cut (2:38.96).

Chris Hansen, CSUB's Director of Swimming, had rave reviews of Milobar's meet: “Dylana's 200 breast is her best time and just shy of her Olympic Trials cut. She swam it so smart for being tired and just off the A3 Invite. She has really grown into a very smart swimmer. I'm so excited to see her swim the rest of the season.”

Two 'Runner men also competed in time trials on Saturday morning and posted strong performances, according to Hansen: “Bryce Timonera and Mihael Vukic both swam impressive 100 frees, 53.41 and 52.64, respectively. Bryce swam an impressive meet; he has to now focus on WAC, then, he and Coach Fran need to sit down and talk Olympic Trials. He has a shot. Mihael's time is fast for him.”

Christopher Salcido, a freshman from Maryville, Tenn., competed in the main 100 freestyle event on Saturday morning. The 6-3 sprinter finished the race in a time of 54.42 to close out his trip to the Winter Nationals. “Chris tried to fight through it in the 100,” Hansen said. “He just didn't have any power from the last two days of being sick.”

Being under the weather was not exclusive to Salcido as Lovre Soric was scratched from his go at the 200 back after a tough night of sickness. Hansen said that both he and Soric were disappointed at the missed opportunity for the Croatian sophomore to show his ability against some of the United States' best talent.

“This was a great meet for us to be represented at,” said Hansen. “I'm a little bummed both Lovre and Chris got sick while we were here. But, overall, CSUB was represented well and I am proud of these six individuals.” Freshman Owen van Krimpen also swam for the 'Runners this week, but did not compete on Saturday.

Full results from the complete AT&T Winter Nationals can be found at USASwimming.org. The Roadrunners have wrapped up their trip to Washington and will return to Bakersfield to prepare for the winter dual season. Both the CSUB men's and women's swimming and diving teams will be back in action, Dec. 12, when they travel to Riverside to battle against Cal Baptist.
