No. 11/12 Stanford Defeats CSUB 83-41

Box Score

PALO ALTO, Calif.—Erica McCall, the daughter of CSU Bakersfield head coach Greg McCall, recorded her eighth double-double of the season to lead No. 11/12 Stanford (9-2) past CSUB 83-41 in women's basketball play Tuesday afternoon.

Erica McCall was presented with a plaque from USA Basketball to honor her participation on the USA's Gold Medal winning World University Games team this past Summer by her father prior to the game. She would score seven of Stanford's 18 first quarter points as the Cardinal led the Roadrunners by six after 10 minutes of play.

Stanford scored five points in the first 1:19 of the second to take an 11-point lead. CSUB called a timeout which led to an Addi Walters three-pointer. Erica McCall sank a jumper the next time down for the Cardinal to return the lead into double-digits. Dajy Vines' second three-pointer of the half cut the Cardinal lead to 25-18 at the 6:04 mark. Stanford would hold the Roadrunners without a point for the final 6:04 of the half as would miss 10 consecutive shots at one points. The Cardinal would mount a 17-0 run to end the half and lead 42-18 at halftime.

CSUB would miss 11 of its final 13 field goal attempts in the quarter as the Cardinal extended the lead to 62-33 after 30 minutes of play. Stanford scored the first 10 points of the fourth quarter as the Cardinal cruised to the victory.

Erica McCall would earn the double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. She also blocked four shots. Alanna Smith scored 14 while Karlie Samuelson posted 13 points. Kayle Johnson scored 11. Walters led the Roadrunners with 12 points. Alyssa Shannon extended her consecutive made free throw streak to 29 with a pair from the charity stripe in the third quarter.

Stanford held CSUB to the program's worst shooting performance at the Division I level, 19.1% (13-of-68) and to the fewest amount of points at the D-1 level. The previous lows were 28.3% against Arizona State earlier this year and 45 points against Nebraska Dec. 13, 2014. The Cardinal were 32-of-63 (50.8%) from the field and outrebounded the Roadrunners 61-36. The 'Runners were 10-of-12 from the free throw line, compared to 13-of-33 for the Cardinal.

"We have to do a better job of shooting if we are going to win games," said CSUB head coach Greg McCall. "We have to do a better job of converting the easy shots when we get them and we have to do a better job of boxing out and rebounding."

The Roadrunners (2-11) return home Dec. 30 when the 'Runners host Hawai'i at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at Vallitix.com. The game is also available on the WAC Digital Network.
