Box Score EDINBURG, Texas—UTRGV defeated CSU Bakersfield in straight sets in Western Athletic Conference volleyball action Saturday.
UTRGV defeated the Roadrunners 25-12 in the first set, 25-17 in the second set, and 25-16 in the third set. Poor hitting again plagued the 'Runners as UTRGV held CSUB to a .098 average for the match. The Vaqueros hit a .408 clip for the match.
“I give all the credit to them!” said CSUB director of volleyball Giovana Melo. “They came out ready to play and we didn't.”
UTRGV was led by Bojana Mitrovic who posted a match high 14 kills and a team high 14 digs. Hayley Durham had 12 kills for the Vaqueros. CSUB was paced by Carol Grasso who had eight kills and seven digs. Edithza Urias charted seven kills and five digs. Luiza Martins dished out 23 assists and had five digs.
The Vaqueros defeated CSUB for the first time in 11 tries. The Roadrunners (10-14, 8-4 WAC) return home Thursday against Missouri-Kansas City at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at Vallitix.com.
