LAS CRUCES, N.M.—In a match between the top two volleyball teams in the Western Athletic Conference, league leader NM State (22-5) defeated CSU Bakersfield 3-0.

The Roadrunners could not get the offense going as CSUB could only muster a .077 (33-24-117) hitting percentage. The Aggies who clinched a share of the WAC regular season title (11-0) hit .219 (44-19-114). NMSU held a 50-41 advantage in digs, but the Roadrunners had six team blocks, compared to five for the Aggies.

Bradley Nash led all players with 10 kills for NM State. Andrea Tauai posted a match high 14 digs and had nine kills for the Aggies. NMSU setter Brianna Ainsworth recorded a double-double of 20 assists and 11 digs.  

Kelsee Sawyer led the 'Runners with nine kills. Current WAC Player of the Week Carol Grasso had her streak of consecutive double-doubles ended at four. She had 13 digs and nine kills. Setter Luiza Martins charted a match high 30 assists.  Sophie Flemion tallied 10 digs.

“That definitely wasn't our day,” said CSUB director of volleyball Giovana Melo. “We didn't play half of what we have been playing. We just have to learn from it and look forward to Saturday!”

The Roadrunners (10-13, 8-3 WAC) travel to UTRGV Saturday. CSUB falls into a tie for second in the conference with Utah Valley. The Wolverines are at Seattle U Saturday. First serve between CSUB and UTRGV is set for 12 p.m. (CST) and is available on the WAC Digital Network. The Roadrunners return home Nov. 12 against Missouri-Kansas City.
