'Runners Season Ends in WAC Semifinals

Box Score

KANSAS CITY, Mo.- The CSU Bakersfield men's soccer season came to an end Friday night in the semifinals of the Western Athletic Conference Tournament with a 4-0 loss to top-seeded Seattle.

“Tonight we got beat by a better team, and fair play top side,” said head coach Richie Grant. “The game gives us a great benchmark for our program and we will address that in our off season and come back stronger next year.”

The 'Runners, who had lost the previous matchup to the Redhawks earlier this season 3-1 in Seattle, held the match scoreless for the first 24 minutes but the Redhawks would strike in a quick pair as Alex Roldan scored off a rebound to open the scoring at 24:11 before Seattle went up 2-0 2:30 minutes later when David Olsen netted his 14th of the season.

Seattle had four shots in the first period scoring two goals for a 2-0 lead at the break. The pressure would continue offensively for the Redhawks in the second half as they added a third tally in the 56th minute when a Sam Langston free kick found the head of Olsen who netted his second goal of the match. Seattle added their fourth goal 1:10 later as Michael Roberts beat the CSUB defense for his eighth goal of the season while locking up Seattle's appearance in the WAC Championship where they will face second-seeded Utah Valley on Sunday.

The Roadrunners end the season 7-6-6 on the season and 4-4-3 in WAC play.

“On behalf of our staff and returners, I want to personally thank our senior class,” Grant said. “They are the reason we do what we do and I know they have bright futures.”
