Box Score SEATTLE—No. 14/24 Seattle U defeated CSU Bakersfield 3-1 in Western Athletic Conference men's soccer action Friday night.
Michael Roberts sent Brian Olson towards the CSUB net in the eighth minute. Olson dribbled past the Roadrunner defense and scored from eight yards out on the first shot of the match. Agustin Andrade made it 2-0 for the Redhawks (11-4, 4-1 WAC) in the 12th minute with a strike from inside the 18-yard box.
Olson scored the third SU goal. CSU Bakersfield goalie Nicolas Clever came out to defend, Olson beat the CSUB defense and sent a bicycle kick into the goal with 7:01 to play in the first set.
Julian Zamora scored his sixth goal of the year in the 54th minute for the lone Roadrunner tally of the night. Seattle U outshot CSUB 14-7 (9-2 on goal). Clever made six saves. CSUB had two corner kicks compared to one for Seattle U.
“We played like ourselves in the second half and scored a goal,” said CSUB head coach Richie Grant. “Seattle deserved to be up 2-0 and then we gave up a soft goal. That made for a difficult night. I'm pleased that we responded well in the second half. (Seattle U head coach) Pete Fewing and his staff have done a super job and they played really well in the first half.”
