SEATTLE-- The CSU Bakersfield women's soccer team was unable to overcome a formidable opponent in Seattle U on Friday night. The Redhawks, the defending Western Athletic Conference Tournament Champions, defeated the Roadrunners by a score of 3-0 at Championship Field.

“Tonight was always going to be a tough game for our team, but we left ourselves a mountain to climb with a poor start,” said Gary Curneen, Head Coach of the 'Runners. “I can't fault the effort and work rate of our team. I thought Coral Lake, Maja Green, and Tori VandeHoef were excellent tonight and we will pick ourselves up for another big game Sunday.”

The Redhawks (9-2-3, 4-0-2 WAC) took an early 1-0 lead over CSUB with a goal from Karli White. The freshman's sixth-minute score helped White increase her to team lead to seven goals on the year. Seattle U took a 2-0 lead in the 30th minute off of Rosalie Sittauer's first goal of the season.

With two minutes remaining in the first half, the 'Runners pushed up the field to put pressure on the Redhawks. A turnover and a quick counterattack resulted in an opportunity for Seattle which took a three-goal lead on White's assist to Kiana Kraft.

After the first goal of the match, CSUB earned its fair share of possession and put pressure on the Redhawk defense. The 'Runners were unable to score in the second half, but also held off Seattle U which recorded its fifth straight shutout. Redshirt senior Tori Ornela made seven saves for the 'Runners who were outshot 16-3 on the night.

CSU Bakersfield (5-8-2, 3-2-1 WAC) will continue a tough stretch of matches on Sunday when they head to Orem, Utah to face WAC leader Utah Valley (10-4-1, 5-0-1). First kick of the match is scheduled for 11 a.m. (MDT) and the game will be available on live stream via the WAC Digital Network.
