LONG BEACH, Calif.—No. 23 Long Beach State (3-1-2) defeated Bakersfield 2-0 Sunday in women's soccer action at George Allen Field.

Ashley Gonzales scored both goals. Gonzales hit the back of the Roadrunner net in the 23rd and 83rd minutes.  The 49ers outshot the 'Runners (0-5-1) 18-4, 10-2 on goal. CSUB goalie Tori Ornela (R-Jr., Lemoore, Calif., Lemoore HS) recorded eight saves.

"Tonight was a battling performance, that very nearly produced a big result," said Bakersfield head coach Gary Curneen. "Long Beach is nationally ranked for a reason but we gave as good as we got for long periods of the game. Overall, there was plenty of growth that we can take on to the next weekend and keep improving."

Bakersfield travels to UC Riverside next Friday night for a 7 p.m. start.
