BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--Hitting proved to be the difference as Long Beach State defeated Bakersfield 3-1 at the Roadrunner Volleyball Classic Friday night in the Icardo Center.

The Beach (10-3) took the opening set by a 25-19 count, holding the Roadrunners to .000 (11-11-45) in the frame. CSUB hit .389 in set two, but the 49ers did not commit a hitting error and were .531 for the set. Down 2-0, Bakersfield (3-8) stormed out of the halftime break on a 10-1 run, did not commit a hitting error and hit .581 (18-0-31) to win the third set 25-11. Long Beach State opened the fourth set on a 12-4 run and never looked back, clinching the match 25-10.

The Beach hit .362 for the match, (54-8-127), led by Bre Mackie who charted a .615 average and 17 kills (17-126). Alex Reid recorded a double-double of 13 kills and 13 digs while hitting .333 for the night (13-136).

Danika Youngblood (Sr., Salt Lake City, Utah, Western Nebraska CC) registered her second consecutive double-double with a career high 19 kills and 10 digs to pace the 'Runners. Kelsee Sawyer (Jr., Temecula, Calif., Great Oak HS) had 17 kills while Molly O'Hagan (Sr., Tonganoxie, Kan., Tonganoxie HS) added 10 kills.

Long Beach State improved to 2-0 at the Roadrunner Classic with the victory over Bakersfield. The Beach defeated Fresno State in straight sets to begin Friday's action. Oregon State also took a straight sets victory over the Bulldogs on Friday.

Bakersfield opens the tournament on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. when CSUB takes on Oregon State. The middle match of the day pits Long Beach State against the Beavers at 4 p.m. with the tournament concluding at 6:30 p.m. when Bakersfield faces Fresno State.
