Page Paces 'Runners Twice At Fresno State Invite

FRESNO, Calif.-- The Roadrunner track and field teams took on the Fresno State Bulldog Invitational on Saturday as Alyssa Page highlighted the day with strong performances in the 200m and 400m races.

Women

The women's team finished the dual meets 3-3 with wins against Pacific, San José State, and Cal Poly and losses to UNLV, Cal State Northridge, and Fresno State.

Junior sprinter Alyssa Page (Santa Rosa, Calif., Montgomery HS) left streaks of exhaust behind her as she dropped her season's best time in the 200m and improved her personal record in the 400m. The Santa Rosa native shaved two hundredths of a second off of her collegiate best time in the 400m with a finish of 56.78.The performance places her in a tie for 12th overall in CSUB women's history in the event and gives her the fifth fastest time in the WAC coming into this week. Her time of 24.58 seconds in the 200m shaved off twelve hundredths and gave her the seventh fastest finish in the WAC this season.

Gabby Giuliano (So., Bakersfield, Calif., Stockdale HS) hurled the javelin a distance of 118-03, improving her career best and bumping her to sixth in the WAC this season. The first place finish in Fresno also moved the Bakersfield native from 16th to 13th all-time in school history. Ariana Mariscal (Fr., Bakersfield, Calif., North HS) put up another strong performance in the 800m race with a time of 2:14.76. Although it was only good enough for her second fastest time of the season, the freshman shows great promise as the team prepares for the WAC Outdoor Championships.

Men

The men also ended the dual meet 3-3 while beating out Pacific, San José State, and UNLV and losing to Cal State Northridge, Cal Poly, and Fresno State.

Karnell Grimes (Jr., Rosamond, Calif., Rosamond HS) highlighted the day for the men's team as the thrower earned a first place finish in the javelin. Grimes' best throw of 179-09 bested his competition and played an important part in earning points for Bakersfield towards the dual scores.

The men's 4 x 100m relay team came across the finish line with a third place finish on Saturday in a time of 43.14. The quartet of Rolando Torres (Fr.), Justus Mora (Sr., Sparks, Nev., Spanish Springs HS), Max Fagan (Jr., Auburn, Calif., College of the Siskiyous), and Matthew Turkington (RJr., Bakersfield, Calif., CentennialHS) shaved almost three tenths of a second off of their previous season's best time.

Bakersfield will take some time off to recover and prepare for the WAC Outdoor Championships which will take place May 14-17 in Orem, Utah. Utah Valley will host this year's conference championships while the 'Runners hope to put up a strong showing in their first season in the WAC.
