BAKERSFIELD, Calif.-- The Roadrunner men's and women's track and field teams will take to the track at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif. on Thursday and Friday.
Men
The 'Runner men will be led into action by Gabe Holland (Sr., Anchorage, Alaska, Univ. of Alaska) and Bryan Wilmert (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Liberty HS) as the two will open the meet on Thursday with the hammer throw. Holland will also compete in the discus on Friday and he and his teammates will try to improve on already-strong seasons. Wilmert's personal best of 197-00 in March is still the longest hammer throw in the WAC this season.
After posting strong times last weekend, Max Fagan (Jr., Auburn, Calif., College of the Siskiyous) and Richard Maestre (RJr., Bakersfield, Calif., South HS) will compete in the 400m hurdles again. Fagan's time of 55.89 helped him sneak into the Bakersfield All-Time Top 20 in the event while Maestre is still trying to eclipse his career best time of 54.14 from 2012. While Justus Mora (Sr., Sparks, Nev., Spanish Springs HS) will race in the 200m dash, his strongest race is the 100m. Mora will continue to prove himself to be Bakersfield's "Fastest Man" as the senior will try to improve upon his career best time of 10.90.
The duo of freshman Kyle Wiggins (Bakersfield, Calif., Centennial HS) and junior Karnell Grimes (Rosamond, Calif., Rosamond HS) will round out the field competitors. Wiggins will take on the long jump and the pole vault while Grimes will take part in the javelin.
Women
Meghan Cleare (Fr., Boron, Calif., Boron HS) will join Wilmert and Holland on Thursday, opening the meet for the women with the hammer throw. Cleare has improved on a weekly basis and looks to exceed her personal best of 131-00. Joining Cleare on Thursday is Megan Thompson (RJr., Fellows, Calif., Taft Union HS) who will take part in the Mt. SAC 3000m steeplechase.
The speedy trio of Alyssa Page (Jr., Santa Rosa, Calif., Montgomery HS), Marina Emhoff (RFr., Bakersfield, Calif., North HS), and Ariana Mariscal (Fr., Bakersfield, Calif., North HS) will also race in the 400m on Friday. Page comes into the weekend as the fastest Roadrunner in the event this season and ninth fastest in the WAC in 2014 with a time of 57.92. Emhoff will try to chase down her teammate as the redshirt freshman is less than a second behind Page in the WAC's top times list. Mariscal will excel in the 800m race later in the day. The freshman moved up the 2014 WAC performance list to fourth place last week at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational with a time of 2:13.91. The performance was also good enough to make her the eighth fastest 'Runner in program history in the event.
Rounding out the 'Runner women will be Gabby Giuliano (So., Bakersfield, Calif., Stockdale HS) who will compete in the pole vault and the javelin.
The 'Runners will compete at times scattered through the day on Thursday while Friday's meet will be an all day affair. Check out this link to get live results throughout the meet.
