BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—The Roadrunner track and field team is gearing up for a trip to Claremont for the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on Saturday, Apr. 12 after taking last weekend off.
Men
The Bakersfield men will be led by the team's strong contingent of throwers. Bryan Wilmert (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Liberty HS) will compete in the hammer throw and shot put. Gabe Holland (Sr., Anchorage, Alaska, University of Alaska) will join his teammate in the hammer throw and will take on the discus while Karnell Grimes (Jr., Rosamond, Calif., Rosamond HS) will compete in the javelin. Wilmert still boasts the longest hammer throw in the WAC this season (197-0) and he and his fellow throwers will all look to improve in Claremont.
Max Fagan (Jr., Auburn, Calif., College of the Siskiyous) and Richard Maestre (RJr., Bakersfield, Calif., South HS) will compete in the 400m hurdles as well as race on the 'Runner relay teams. Justus Mora (Sr., Sparks, Nev., Spanish Springs HS) will run in the 100m and 200m dashes alongside teammates Matthew Turkington (RJr., Bakersfield, Calif., Centennial HS) and Rolando Torres (Fr.).
Women
The women's team will be lead by Alyssa Page (Jr., Santa Rosa, Calif., Montgomery HS) who will compete in the 100m and 200m races as well as both relays. Page will be joined by redshirt freshman Marina Emhoff (Bakersfield, Calif., North HS) in all four events.
Ariana Mariscal (Fr., Bakersfield, Calif., North HS) continues her quest in the 800m, a race in which she earned All-WAC honors at the WAC Indoor Championships at the end of February. “Ariana has shown great improvement and consistency in the 800m this year,” said Bakersfield's Director of Track and Field, Marcia Mansur-Wentworth. The freshman from Bakersfield will also take a leg of the 4 x 400m relay.
Gabby Giuliano (Bakersfield, Calif., Stockdale HS) will take to the field for the 'Runners as the sophomore will compete in the pole vault and javelin.
The Pomona-Pitzer Invitational will run all day on Saturday. Live Stats will not be available during the meet, so look for results and a recap to go up late Saturday night when the meet has concluded.
