FRESNO, Calif. -- Bakersfield women's track and field competed at Fresno's Run for the Dream indoor meet on Monday evening.
The Roadrunners posted a solid performance in their last indoor meet before the WAC Indoor Championships. Bakersfield competed against teams like Fresno State, Sacramento State, Cal Poly, and Long Beach State.
Distance runner Megan Thompson (RJr., Fellows, Calif., Taft Union HS) crossed the finish line in first place in the 800m race. Thompson's time of 2:23.20 was more than three seconds faster than any of her competitors and already eclipsed the best time by any Roadrunner woman from the 2013 season. The California native's personal best in the event is 2:19.62 so Thompson can still bring her time down in the season ahead.
Also finishing in first was the 4 x 400m relay team of Marina Emhoff (RFr., Bakersfield, Calif., North HS), Erica Wilcox (So., Bakersfield, Calif., Liberty HS), Ariana Mariscal (Fr., Bakersfield, Calif., North HS), and Alyssa Page (Jr., Santa Rosa, Calif., Montgomery HS). The quartet accumulated a time of 4:00.62 in their first ever relay together.
Sophomore Audrena Harlan (Antioch, Calif., Dozier-Libbey Medical HS) had a nice showing for the 'Runners in the triple jump. In her first go at the event on the season, Harlan was extremely consistent as all four of her jumps were within 5 cm of each other while her best jump was 10.89m (35-08.75 ft). The jump was good enough to place Harlan seventh overall in a pool of 12 strong jumpers.
The 55m dash featured a large group of competitors and Dominique Alexander (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., South HS) landed herself in the top half of all finishers. A time of 7.57 gave Alexander a 16th place finish out of 34 competitors.
Freshman LaShya Morgan (Bakersfield, Calif., Ridgeview HS) paced the 'Runners in the 3000m race. Morgan's time of 11:18.39 was good enough for fourth place. Kaylee Moyer (So., Bakersfield, Calif., North HS) followed not too far behind Morgan as she finished in sixth with a time of 11:36.77.
"I thought it was a good outing and was happy that we won the team title," said Bakersfield Director of Track and Field Marcia Mansur-Wentworth. "The 4 x 400 relay team did great in winning their race. Megan Thompson ran very well in the 800 and I was also pleased with Ariana Mariscal's performance in the 600."
The 'Runners will head to Moscow, Idaho in two weeks for the WAC Indoor Championships.
