Box Score SEATTLE, Wash.--Seattle U snapped Bakersfield's six-game winning streak Saturday as the Redhawks defeated the Roadrunners 74-67.
Seattle U used a 18-2 run late in the first half to head into the break with 35-25 lead. The Redhawks led by 18 with 6:10 to go before the 'Runners mounted a charge that saw Bakersfield cut the lead to four, 68-64 with 1:00 to play, but Seattle's Kacie Sowell made a basket the next time down. After a CSUB turnover, the Redhawks sank four free throws in the final 36 seconds to secure the victory.
Tyonna Outland (R-Jr., Compton, Calif., Lynwood HS) led all scorers with 25 points. Batabe Zempare (So., Accra, Ghana, Scottsdale Chapparal HS) tallied her seventh double-double of the year as she scored 10 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Brooklynn Hinkens (Jr.,Lake Tapps, Wash., Auburn-Riverside HS) had 13 off the bench for the 'Runners.
Sowell led five Seattle players in double figures with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Sylvia Shepard also had a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds.
"I thought we played really hard," said Bakersfield head coach Greg McCall. "Tonight was tough trying to adjust to how the game was called. In the end we didn't make enough adjustments, but I'm proud of how we played."
The Roadrunners host Kansas City Thursday night in the Icardo Center. Tip is set for 7 p.m.
